1A Chocolate Festival is scheduled for Saturday in Moore County, sponsored by the Pinehurst United Methodist Women at the church at 4111 Airport Road. The free event to raise money for charity is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Unemployment rose in most North Carolina counties at the end of 2011, including Cumberland County. A report Wednesday from the N.C. Employment Security Commission said Cumberland's unemployment rate in December rose to 9.8 percent, from 9.5 percent in November.
